What is FloydFest?

Floydfest

We often get the question about FloydFest, from folks who haven’t heard of the town of Floyd [VA]; “Will Pink Floyd be there? Is it a Pink Floyd cover band festival?” No, actually, FloydFest is named after our one-stoplight, two-block town, or rather the special essence of our town, which residents and visitors alike experience as a respite from the restless, hurried activity of our modern society, and the cookie-cutter look and feel of many, if not most, modern places.

FloydFest

From Wikipedia:

“FloydFest” is a world music and arts festival held annually in Floyd County, Virginia, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It began in 2002 and has received excellent reviews ever since, earning a name for itself in 2005 when it played host to well-known folk singer Ani DiFranco. It lasts for three days with on-site camping and has seven stages featuring World, Bluegrass, Reggae, Folk, African and Appalachian performers and showcases local Arts and Crafts, in addition to scheduling music and dance workshops and other small events, such as morning yoga lessons, story telling, and poetry readings, and a Children’s Universe tent.

Each FloydFest festival has a theme. Below are the themes from the first 8 annual FloydFests:

2002: Floyd County World Music Festival
2003: Out Of This World Music
2004: Midsummer’s Dream
2005: Rock of Ages
2006: Roots Alive
2007: It’s in the Mix
2008: Family Affair…
