The 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show featured a spectacular, extravagant performance by the NEW richest musician in the world: Rihanna.
In January 2016, when Rihanna released her most recent album, the eclectic, intimate “Anti,” Barack Obama was president, Prince was still alive and TikTok did not yet exist.
NY Times
Rihanna was born February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados, and grew up in Bridgetown. She has two younger brothers, Rorrey and Rajad Fenty.
Rihanna’s childhood was marred by her parents’ marital issues and her father’s reported drug and alcohol addictions. Her parents eventually divorced when she was 14.
The fact that Rihanna is now ranked by Forbes as music’s richest performer, with a reported net worth of 1.7 billion dollars–making her the youngest self-made female billionaire–seems outrageous when you consider that her most recent album, the eclectic “Anti,” was released in January 2016. Although she has been featured on other artists’ songs and recorded two tracks for the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack, she has largely been busy with her entrepreneurial endeavors. In fact, once one of pop’s most prominent chart toppers, Rihanna’s next album release has been pushed back indefinitely.
So, what’s propelling this mega-star’s massive earning power (prior to her Super Bowl appearance in 2023 she had not performed for nearly four years), to the top of the heap of money earned by the biggest names in entertainment, including even Jay-Z and Paul McArtney?
A huge portion of her new wealth ($1.4B) has come from her business ventures. In 2017 she launched a beauty line called Fenty Beauty. She followed that fashion juggernaut by founding the lingerie company Savage x Fenty. She has built her companies and promoted her brands primarily through her gigantic social media presence.
Although her barely visible baby bump (yes she was pregnant at the Super Bowl) suggests that she may not be launching a world tour anytime soon, this girl’s not going anywhere and remains one of the most streamed artists in the industry.
